English Phonemic Awareness of Students with Visual Disabilities

Most of researches have reported the significance English phonemic awareness to success learning English, but less discussions involving students with visual disabilities. Students disabilities lacks input and form a strong sensitivity audio input, that this condition affect their spelling ability, yet, ability in recognizing phonemes has been explored especially Indonesia. Thus, research aims describe who learn as Foreign Language. The participants are whether active or passive braille user. 7 participated an Online Phonemic Awareness Test. Two independent raters rated data independently. Interrater agreement was applied ensure objectivity two interrater. findings show aware consonants Fricative alveolar, Plosive bilabial, alveolar sounds struggling velar Affricative sound, they also vowels Close mid front vowel, long vowel sounds, back Open central identifying vowel. is very important basic thing language learning. However, it will be challenging for ESL learners, those blind because certain obstacles so strategies needed
